Who We Help

At PulsePaws, we work exclusively with individuals who require medical alert dogs — trained to detect and respond to specific medical conditions such as epilepsy and other health-related episodes. Our process is built on trust, safety, and collaboration.
We only accept clients through medical referral, ensuring that every partnership between dog and handler is grounded in verified medical need and professional guidance.
Once a referral is received, we tailor our training to the specific requirements of each individual’s condition, focusing on accurate alerts, appropriate response behaviours, and long-term reliability.

Every dog is trained to serve one purpose — safeguarding lives through medical detection, assistance, and companionship.

Specialised Training at PulsePaws

Our medical alert dogs are trained using evidence-based methods that combine scent detection, behavioural conditioning, and public-access preparation. Each dog’s programme is tailored to the handler’s unique medical profile and lifestyle.

Core areas of training:

  • Seizure Alert & Response: recognising pre-seizure scent or behavioural cues; alerting the handler or others; fetching emergency medication; activating alarms or buttons.

  • Diabetic Alert: detecting high and low blood-sugar levels through scent; alerting early to prevent severe episodes.

  • Cardiac Alert: responding to changes in heart rate or blood pressure; alerting before syncope or cardiac distress.

  • POTS / Fainting Response: recognising early postural changes and bracing the handler; providing physical support or alerting caregivers.

  • Medication Reminder: prompting handlers to take prescribed medication at scheduled times.

  • Emergency Assistance: trained to retrieve a phone, press a medical-alert button, or lead another person to the handler.

  • Grounding & Recovery Support: providing deep-pressure therapy or tactile grounding after a medical event to speed recovery.

  • Public Access & Obedience: ensuring calm, controlled behaviour in public spaces, transportation, and clinical environments.

Each PulsePaws dog is trained not just to perform tasks, but to understand the context — offering reliability, focus, and emotional reassurance when it matters most.
